Many insect species have similar morphology in their juvenile and adult stages and are economically significant pests in agriculture. Morphological features of similar species overlap and identification based on morphology is not precise, despite how advanced optics is. Economically significant pests form similar species complexes, sometimes several of them can be found on the same leaf and they show different susceptibility to insecticides which further causes difficulties for successful control. Due to inherit lack of knowledge of “who is who” in the system, insecticides are selected in a wrong way, leaving the pest(s) to continuously cause damages to plants.


FaunaSmart provides the most precise, real-time DNA based information about the exact species composition in agricultural system.

We use drone as a tool for monitoring, sampling and real-time DNA identification of insect-pest colonies on plants, from their early developmental stages. When we assess knowledge about species composition, FaunaSmart software calculates the risk of plant economic injuries based on developmental requirements of the species found and further provides the best solution for controlling these populations: the most efficient and environmentally friendly options.
